Standard Chartered leads the way in retail banking
To be “The Right Partner” in communities
27 May 2008

Standard Chartered Bank (Thai) Pcl. expands its branch network and leverages its partnership with community, a strategy in retail business to continue its balanced, quality and sustainable growth.
Mr. Mark Devadason, President and CEO of Standard Chartered Bank (Thai) said this year our business strategy emphasises balanced, quality and sustainable growth, in terms of income, profit and customer base, while carrying out business operation along with socially responsible activities.
“Our aspiration is to be the Best International Thai Bank, through our capabilities in product and service innovations that respond to customers’ need, our international network strength and superior customer experience. We want to become the “Right Partner” to all stakeholders including customers, staff, communities, regulators and investors.”
At the opening of Srivara branch, on Sukhumvit Road, the 37th branch of Standard Chartered (Thai), Mr. Mark said this year the bank has plans to open five branches including Srivara, Ratchayothin, Central Bang-na, Bankrak and Sukhumvit 20. Each branch will not only increase our retail customer distribution channels, but also pave way to better serve the communities.
“Corporate social responsibility is one of the bank’s core policies. Equally important is how to implement the policy into various activities, some of which are global initiatives such as Seeing is Believing, Living with HIV and funding environmental project, others are local projects such as iDream which aims to help the less-fortunate in the society.
“The bank cultivates social responsibility into staff, not only by encouraging staff to create and participate in social activities, but also providing Employee Volunteering Leave Programme, enabling staff to take two days a year for community volunteering. Many staff welcome the policy and take the opportunity.”
“The opening of Srivara branch with offering of community services including eye check up from Thai Red Cross’s Eye Bank and prescribed eye glasses donation to community residents as we have done today could set an example for other branches in operating its business while doing community work. We hope to continue community services through our branch network and reinforce our branch promise of “Leading by Example to be the Right Partner.”
